Transparent and Specular Object Reconstruction
نویسندگان
چکیده
This state of the art report covers reconstruction methods for transparent and specular objects or phenomena. While the 3D acquisition of opaque surfaces with Lambertian reflectance is a well-studied problem, transparent, refractive, specular and potentially dynamic scenes pose challenging problems for acquisition systems. This report reviews and categorizes the literature in this field. Despite tremendous interest in object digitization, the acquisition of digital models of transparent or specular objects is far from being a solved problem. On the other hand, real-world data is in high demand for applications such as object modelling, preservation of historic artefacts and as input to data-driven modelling techniques. With this report we aim at providing a reference for and an introduction to the field of transparent and specular object

3D digitization of metallic specular surfaces using scanning from heating approach
Because of the difficulty of dealing with specularity of several surfaces, few methods have been proposed to measure three-dimensional shapes of specular metallic objects. In this paper we present an application on this kind of material of an approach called “Scanning From Heating”. This approach has been developed initially for 3D reconstruction of transparent objects. This article presents an...
متن کاملDetermining Shape of Specular Surfaces
A new method for determining the shape of specular surfaces is presented in this paper. Our approach reconstructs the shape of specular surfaces from a relationship between the surrounding environment and the observed images of specular surfaces. A prototype system has been implemented. The experimental results show that the proposed method is effective to the reconstruction of specular objects...
متن کاملMulti-peak Range Imaging for Accurate 3d Reconstruction of Specular Objects
In this paper, we present new range acquisition and 3D reconstruction methods that are capable of modeling specular objects. Multipeak range imaging, a new concept in range data collection that accounts for the effects of interreflections, is used to acquire range data of an object. False measurements caused by interreflections are then iteratively eliminated by using constraints based on local...
متن کاملTime-Lapse Light Field Photography for Perceiving Transparent and Reflective Objects
Robust robotic perception and manipulation of household objects requires the ability to detect, localize and manipulate a wide variety of objects, which may be mirror reflective like polished metal, glossy like smooth plastic, or transparent like glass; for example, picking a metal fork out of a sink full of running water or screwing a metal nut onto a bolt. Existing perceptual approaches based...
متن کاملTurning the World Upside Down to Understand Perceived Transparency
Specular surfaces and refractive media are difficult to distinguish from each other because they both generate distorted images of the surrounding lighting environment. Whereas convex refractive objects invert the orientation of the horizon so the sky appears beneath the ground plane, convex specular surfaces preserve the orientation of the horizon so the sky appears above the ground. Here, we ...
